About Roberto
I have had an affinity with dogs since I was a young boy.
My first dog was a black and white cocker spaniel called Trixie. I still often think of her. In 2017, I attended the RSPCA's Paw Walk with my then dog, a beautiful Great Dane/English Pointer Cross. She became my best friend, and my family for 12 years. During this time I loved the responsibility, the routine, and the well-being of that dog. It wasn't hard, she was a gem. And her name was Ruby.
Also at the Paw Walk, I became acquainted with an old friend who was involved with the Animal Justice Party and began my love affair with the care and welfare of companion animals, particularly dogs. I was heartbroken when Ruby passed away a few weeks after her 12th birthday. I miss her every single day. Recently I foster cared for an old 14-year-old dog called Mr. Sparkie Whistledown who was about to be put to sleep, his owners didn't want him any longer and dumped him at a regional pound. I couldn't help myself and took him in. It was the best thing I have done with a dog. Fell in love with this gorgeous old fella. Sadly, he passed away, in my arms, not long after leaving me heartbroken again.
I now have another rescue dog from Save-A-Dog, an English pointer cross called Orlando. He is now eight and is a very curious and very spoilt dog. All kinds of dogs, although large dogs tend to be my favourite ones.
I am a freelancer and work from home and around basically 24/7, so having companion animals around is not new. I love preparing my own healthy dog meals with good meat and veggies - none of that canned processed stuff.
Walking dogs is another task I enjoy and we both get healthy at the same time. The beautiful Alma Park is nearby so there is plenty of space to meet other dogs or just be walked solo. I am a member of many dogs and animal groups including Animals Australia, Dog Owners Group of St. Kilda, Bayside Dog Owners Group, Animal Justice Party, and Dog Lovers Melbourne. I am fairly knowledgeable about animal safety, health issues, and living habits, so that is a plus.
I just love dogs. I used to be an Authorised Officer, so Police Checks aren't a problem. If a dog needs to stay with me, they are treated as family and we have a good-sized yard that is secure with high fences and a grassy lawn. Dogs are allowed in the house, there are a couple of large dog beds, plenty of food, and comfort.
As a companion animal sitter, I take my responsibilities seriously and am committed to providing a safe and loving home. Thanks for considering me as your dog sitter. I look forward to doing a meet 'n' greet with you both.
I probably have to admit that I prefer the company of dogs to people.
