About Rebecca
My partner (36) and I (30) are a recent addition to the Hobart area. I am just starting a PhD in Antarctic Marine Studies. I grew up mostly around cats, but during the lockdowns I got myself my covid "puppy" - a 14 year old Dachshund/Terrier rescue. We had a couple of great years together, unfortunately we had to let him pass a while ago (he made it to 16!). Little did I know I was a dog person all along!
Until we get settled properly and can afford a big yard, my partner and I decided it's probably wisest to not get another dog immediately - which is why I am on Pawshake! Before moving from Europe, I was dog-walking 4-5 times a week and pet-sitting 2-3 times a week.
While my own dog was old and special needs, I have walked and cared for many different kinds of dogs since. I am confident with dogs small to large, young to old, including those who may have some anxiety problems. I am also involved in work with animal shelters and at Guide Dogs Tasmania.
I don't mind whether an animal is shy or outgoing - I am extremely patient and am happy to have to win their trust first. I am flexible in my approach with animals and will always try to make sure they are happy and comfortable. I am also happy to carry on any training you may be doing with your dog so everything is nice and consistent.
We have a pet-friendly 2 story terraced house in Lutana with a small fully fenced in back yard. We are right around the corner from 2 reserves that allow dog access (one is less than 20m away). I live with my partner who is a geologist and who loves dogs also.
We love going for walks and adventures with dogs, so you can rest assured your pet won't get bored while with us! We are also experts at inventing new enrichment ideas for when the weather isn't great. And most importantly we are always up for a good dog cuddle.
Happy for you to come by and see us and the place for yourself before you make any decisions! We are excited to meet you and your dog(s)!
